Independence High was briefly placed on lockdown Wednesday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Independence High was briefly placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after officers were told a student at a bus stop had a gun.

Police said no weapons were found but that an investigation was ongoing. The high school was locked down as a precaution. Just after 8:30 a.m., CMPD said there was "no threat to students or faculty."

The police department said it detained several students.

Independence Principal David Legrand said in a message posted on Facebook shortly before 9 a.m. that the school was on a modified lockdown and that classes are resuming as normal.
