Congressman Pittenger Says He Wants Apology From Mark Harris

Congressman Robert Pittenger

Updated 1:25 p.m.

Ninth district Congressman Robert Pittenger wants an apology from Mark Harris before endorsing him in the general election.

The three-term congressman says Harris’ ads during their Republican primary battle did not accurately reflect Pittenger’s stance on Planned Parenthood, a border wall, sanctuary cities and amnesty.

Pittenger made the remarks on Spectrum News’ Capital Tonight program after he was asked whether he would support Harris in the general election. This follows a statement Pittenger made the morning after the May 8th primary in which he said his campaign was blindsided by attacks he called, “fabricated and nonsense.”

A spokesman for Harris, Jason Harris, says there won't be an apology.

"We understand this was a tough primary and  hope Congressman Pittenger will eventually join with us to ensure the Republicans keep control of the House and keep Nancy Pelosi from becoming our next Speaker of the House.  We’re grateful for his years of service in the NC Senate and U.S. Congress."

Harris beat Pittenger in the primary by 828 votes, and faces Charlotte Democrat Dan McCready in the general election.
