Petra's, a bar in Plaza-Midwood, played host to Charlotte's anti-amendment results party. The mood was festive the whole evening. It was even positive because the vote was not more one-sided.

But patrons like Michael Blizzard were still disappointed. "I'm disappointed for everyone. Because, come tomorrow, I still won't be able to marry my boyfriend regardless. All this is going to hurt are people that it wasn't intended for," said Blizzard.

Two miles away, Andy Holcolmb was at Dressler's Restaurant, the site of Jim Pendegraph's results party. Holcolmb said before he went to vote, he didn't care about the amendment. But the wording made him define where he fell on the issue. "'Do you believe marriage is defined as between a man and a woman?' Yeah. That is what I believe. So I voted for it. It's not that I hate gay people or anything. I do personally believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, so I voted for it," Holcomb stated.
