Dan McCready Says He'll Call For New Election If Results Tainted

Mark Harris For Congress / Dan McCready For Congress

Dan McCready has withdrawn his concession to Republican Mark Harris in the 9th District Congressional race and says there should be a new election if the State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement finds the results were tainted amid potential ballot fraud.

Voters in the district have said that Harris supporters pressed them to hand over absentee-by-mail ballots, a number of which were not returned.

Unofficial results show McCready lost the race to Harris by 905 votes. The board of elections has twice refused to certify the race.

McCready said on Charlotte Talks Friday that he wants the Board to “keep doing what they’re doing” in conducting a full and thorough investigation into the allegations.

Harris has not responded to allegations centering on a political operative in Bladen County who is alleged to have harvested votes in support of his campaign. McCready says that is unacceptable. He called on Harris to end his silence.

When asked if he is prepared to run again, McCready said that his focus is on those who had their votes taken away from them.
