Ex-Mayor Foxx Responds To Lawsuit Over DesignLine Work

Anthony Foxx

Former Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx argues that his former employer, the now bankrupt bus company DesignLine, does not have an accurate record of his past work. Based on that record, the trustee in DesignLine's bankruptcy is suing him for $421,000, alleging Foxx did not earn those wages.

Foxx, who is now U.S. Transportation Secretary, says the lawsuit got several things wrong.

In a recent court filing, his attorneys said he actually received much less than $421,000 to be DesignLine's deputy general counsel. The filing does not say what he did make.

As for the allegation that the company's books don't reflect"any activities or actions" by Foxx, his attorneys say those books are not accurate. The attorneys say Foxx provided legal services, attended meetings and offered perspective on transportation policy. That's as specific as they get.

Their filing says the company knew Foxx would be busy as Charlotte's mayor; "Therefore, his work focused on specific assignments directed to him by management, which he received from time-to-time and performed."
