Former Charlotte Mayor Foxx Sued Over Previous Work (Or Lack Thereof)

Anthony Foxx

Former Charlotte mayor and current U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx is being sued for $421,000. The lawsuit alleges that Foxx never did any actual work when he was employed at DesignLine, a now-bankrupt bus company.

When Foxx was still mayor, he served as deputy general counsel for DesignLine. But the company did not have an in-house general counsel above him, and it paid outside firms millions of dollars to handle its legal business, according to the trustee overseeing DesignLine's bankruptcy case.

That trustee is suing Foxx to recover a minimum of $421,000 in payroll and overtime pay. The lawsuit says DesignLine's records do not reflect any communication between Foxx and the outside firms, "nor do they reflect any activities or actions of defendant in his role as deputy general counsel."

Neither the trustee nor Foxx responded to our interview requests. Foxx has about a month to respond to the complaint in court.
