The Iredell County Sheriff's Office says it sent deputies out on Monday morning to find and arrest 70 people suspected of drug offenses.
In a news release posted to social media, the agency alleges that the 70 people "sold drugs or participated in the sale of drugs" to undercover deputies during what the sheriff's office is calling Operation Autumn Harvest.
More than 200 drug charges were made as part of the operation. In some cases, deputies received tips from the public that led to investigations.
Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release that Iredell County is "not a safe haven to deal drugs."
The sheriff's office says most charges involve sale or possession of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine or prescription drugs.
“These are the types of drugs which do the most harm to the individuals who become addicted to them," Campbell said. "By removing the drug sellers, it becomes harder to purchase illegal drugs."
