It's now officially 'Mayor Anthony Foxx'

Charlotte has its first new mayor in 14 years. Last night, Pat McCrory handed over the reins of the city to Anthony Foxx. About 600 people showed up to watch the transfer of leadership. A choked up Pat McCrory said his good byes to the city. He said he's excited about the future of Charlotte and knows he's leaving the city in good hands. "Mayor Foxx to you, continued good leadership and, all of you my best friends, continued lifetime friendships," said McCrory. "God bless Charlotte and God bless America. Thank you very much." Foxx took his oath of office and shortly afterward McCrory slipped out of the meeting. Foxx told the crowd he's ready to help Charlotte make its way out of this tough time. "Within the hearts and minds of residents of Charlotte there is still the same hunger to evolve to the best of our collective ability," said Foxx. "Tonight, we reaffirm that the remarkable story of Charlotte is not over; a new chapter is beginning." Foxx said he wants to encourage new jobs by expanding the city's small business loan program and by holding a summit for area leaders to figure out ways they can grow the local economy. He also said he plans on tackling the area's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. Mayor Foxx will lead his first city council meeting next week.
