Jury Selection Begins Wednesday In Kevin Olsen Trial

Mecklenburg County Courthouse
NC Courts

Jury selection begins Wednesday in the trial of former UNC Charlotte quarterback Kevin Olsen, the brother of the Carolina Panthers’ Greg Olsen.

Kevin Olsen was arrested on Feb. 19, 2017, by CMPD in connection to a reported rape which occurred on the same day. He’s facing three counts of second-degree rape and one count of sexual offense. Olsen and his accuser are known to one another.

Olsen, who is being represented by Charlotte attorney George Laughrun, entered a not guilty plea on Aug. 28, 2017.

On Tuesday, Judge Karen Eady-Williams reviewed several motions brought by Laughrun and assistant district attorney Kristen Northrup. One of the more notable decisions by Judge Eady-Williams was allowing the woman who filed the police report against Olsen alleging she was raped, to be referred to as the victim by the state. The defense argued she should be referred to as the prosecuting witness.

Court documents obtained by WFAE show that the state is going to offer testimony from a sexual assault nurse examiner, the medical professional who administers a sexual assault exam.

There is no exact timeframe for how long jury selection might take.
