Levine Museum Of The New South Historian Leaves For Detroit

WFAE

The Levine Museum of the New South will once again be looking for a new staff historian. After two years in that role, Brenda Tindal will be moving on. She’s accepted a position as the director of education at the Detroit Historical Society.

The Levine Museum says Tindal will help lead an initiative tracing the history of the 1967 Detroit riots.

Tindal, a native of Charlotte, started her career at the Levine Museum in 2003 as an intern and research consultant. She replaced long time staff historian Tom Hanchett after his retirement.

Tindal   helped shape Levine Museum’s most recent exhibits: K(NO)W Justice K(NO)W Peace and Splendid Service: Camp Greene & the Making of a New South City.

“Levine Museum is where I received my wings in the museum field and developed a deep appreciation for the rich and diverse history of Charlotte,” Tindal stated in a press release. “It’s been an honor to serve as staff historian at Levine and a privilege to do so in my hometown.”

Her last day will be December 8. Levine Museum will immediately begin a search for a new historian, a role it describes as instrumental in helping to grow and engage diverse audiences from across the region.
