Man Charged With Attempted Murder, Kidnapping Charlotte Woman

Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office

Police have arrested and charged a man for assaulting, kidnapping and attempting to kill a woman in her Charlotte home Sunday night.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Jonathan Collins, 28, strangled the woman multiple times and attacked her with a cooking pan in her home off Avery Meadow Drive. He also left her in a closed garage with a car running, filling the garage with carbon monoxide, police said.

CMPD said Collins then drove the woman to a remote part of Anson County, where deputies located her. The woman has been transported to the hospital and is receiving medical treatment.

Collins was arrested by Union County officers Tuesday, and was then transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. He faces charges of attempted murder, assault and kidnapping.

Police have not released information about the woman or her relationship to Collins.
