North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein has filed a lawsuit against a Charlotte appliance repair company owner for allegedly scamming a dozen local residents.
According to the lawsuit, John Jackson advertises his appliance repair services under several company names that include Appliance Maxx, Rapid Response Appliance Repair and Profession Appliance Service. The lawsuit alleges that when hired by customers, Jackson performed sham inspections of appliances and either pretended to fix the problem tell the customer that he needed to order a new part for the repair.
Stein says Jackson would demand advance payment for the parts at inflated costs but never ordered them.
Stein also accuses Jackson of pretending to make repairs in his ongoing scheme and not responding to consumers or making excuses for not returning when they complained that their appliances still did not work.
Stein says he began investigating Jackson after receiving 12 complaints from Charlotte consumers. He is seeing a temporary restraining order, restitution for victims and other penalties.
