No Start Date Set, But CATS Moving Toward Using I-77 Toll Lanes

A CATS commuter bus used the lanes Nov. 14. CATS says it's currently training drivers and buses will start using the lanes soon.

Charlotte Area Transit System says it's taking steps to let commuter buses use the I-77 Express toll lanes between Charlotte and north Mecklenburg County.

All 26 miles of the project are now open after the southern section opened last weekend. A few buses have begun using the lanes, but CATS says it hasn't set a start date for the switch.

"CATS has not had access to the lanes until they opened to the public recently," said Juliann Sheldon, CATS acting public relations manager. "That being said, our team is now currently in the process of training all bus drivers on routing adjustments, including how to ingress and egress the toll lanes."

Sheldon added CATS expects an announcement on when buses will use the lanes "in the near future."
