Perdue Attacks in NC Governer's Debate

Bev Perdue took Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory to task several times, with many points that are highlighted in her campaign material. One came up during the illegal immigration discussion. "The mayor has said he had to use undocumented workers to bring down the cost of the NASCAR museum and I'm sure there are other businesses across the state doing that. But again, the federal law says that's illegal in North Carolina," she said. Perdue was referring to an article that came out in the Charlotte Observer where the mayor acknowledged illegal immigrants may have put in hours on city projects. After the debate McCrory told reporters Perdue's attack ads have become a real challenge. "She has lent herself over a million dollars to the campaign. I don't have that financial capability. I'm not wealthy. And I'm just gonna have to go out and run a grassroots campaign as much as possible and let the people know the truth," he said. The candidates did agree on some issues. They said the state gas tax is too high and the federal No Child Left Behind Act is ineffective.
