Police say one person was shot and killed and another injured early Wednesday in northwest Charlotte.

One of the shooting victims, who has not yet been publicly identified, was dead when medics got to the scene inside a home in the 9100 block of Feldbank Drive, just east of Beatties Ford Road, shortly after 3 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Another person was found in the home also wounded from gunfire. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, and the severity of his injuries wasn't immediately clear. Police did not release any details about what may have led to the shooting.

It's the first homicide reported in Charlotte in 2020. Last year was a particularly deadly one for the growing city. CMPD reported 108 homicides — the most since 1993 and nearly double the 2018 homicide total of 57 killings.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call 704-432-8477.
