A South Carolina man was killed after he was followed after leaving court.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A sheriff in South Carolina says a man shot and killed as he drove down a busy road was followed by his killers from a court visit.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said 44-year-old Aaron Evans and 25-year-old Simeon Miller were arrested Wednesday and charged with murder.

Lott says the pair followed 28-year-old Joshua Peterson from the courthouse in downtown Columbia on Nov. 1, ambushing him as he drove on U.S. Highway 1 after he dropped off a passenger.

Lott said at a news conference Evans and Miller had an ongoing problem with Peterson but didn't give specifics.

Lott called the killing an "assassination" and "a targeted hit."

It wasn't known if Evans or Miller had attorneys.
