SouthBound: Fortune Feimster On Small Towns, Big Laughs, And The Movie That Changed Her Life

JEN ROSENSTEIN

There was a young woman named Emily Feimster from a small town in North Carolina. She was an athlete in high school and college, presented as a debutante, graduated summa cum laude, had the whole world in front of her. But she didn’t know what she wanted to be. And more than that, she didn’t know who she really was.

She didn’t learn all that until she moved to Los Angeles, started a career in show business, and started going by her middle name: Fortune.

Now Fortune Feimster sells out comedy shows across the country – her latest special, “Sweet & Salty,” is available on Netflix. She’s also an actress with roles including a spot on the reboot of “The L Word,” the Showtime series depicting the lives of gay women.

It feels like a good fit, because a TV movie about a gay woman changed Fortune Feimster’s life.

Let's keep the conversation going. Who do you want to hear from next on the SouthBound podcast?
