Jeff Jackson won the Democratic primary for the Charlotte area’s new 14th U.S. House District on Tuesday and will face Republican Pat Harrigan in November. Meanwhile, Rep. Alma Adams won the Democratic primary for Charlotte's other U.S. House seat, the 12th District, and Tyler Lee won the Republican primary.

The race for Mecklenburg County sheriff was one of the most intense contests in the Charlotte area on the May 17 primary. Incumbent Sheriff Garry McFadden, a Democrat, was challenged by two former sheriff's office employees, Gina Hicks and Marquis Robinson. Without a Republican primary, this effectively decides the race.
