President Donald Trump is running for reelection in 2020, and several Democrats are vying for their party's nomination to face him. As of Feb. 26, 19 Democratic candidates had dropped out of the race and eight remained. They are: U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren; U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard; former Vice President Joe Biden; former (New York and South Bend, Indiana) Mayors Mike Bloomberg and Pete Buttigieg; and billionaire executive Tom Steyer.

The general election is Nov. 3. South Carolina's presidential primary for Democrats is Feb. 29, and North Carolinas primaries are March 3. North Carolina is expected to be a presidential battleground state, and Charlotte is the host city for the 2020 Republican National Convention.

After nearly a day-long delay, the Iowa Democratic Party started releasing results from the Monday night caucuses. The party blamed a "coding issue" with the app for its inability to release results after the caucuses, as campaigns and voters waited in anticipation.

Only 41 delegates are at stake, but Iowa is known for helping to make or break a presidential candidates' momentum. Now, the meltdown over results is prompting renewed criticism of the state's process and first-in-the-nation status.

Health care has been a leading issue in the presidential campaign over the past year, as Democratic candidates have clashed with each other, and especially with President Trump. But voters, who tell pollsters that health is among their top concerns, also complain that the health debate has been confusing and hard to follow.

With voting about to begin in many states, here's a guide to some key health care terms, issues and policy differences at play.

FLORENCE, S.C. — Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, who has been criticized for his slow outreach to blacks and other minorities, is trying to rearrange his schedule to make room for events in early-voting South Carolina that honor Martin Luther King Jr.

Tom Steyer has been spending a lot of time in North Carolina lately. The billionaire environmental activist and Democratic candidate running for president made campaign stops in Raleigh and Goldsboro last weekend. And this weekend, he has stops in Charlotte. And he joined All Things Considered on Friday.

California Sen. Kamala Harris is dropping out of the presidential race, citing a lack of funds. She informed her campaign staff of the decision on a conference call and later sent an email to supporters, in which she wrote "my campaign for president simply doesn't have the financial resources we need to continue."

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is making a late entry into the presidential race, a move that could upend the Democratic nominating contest this spring.

Bloomberg said in a statement Sunday that he is running to rebuild America and defeat President Trump, whom he says "represents an existential threat to our country and our values."

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden held a campaign rally in Durham's historically-black Hillside High School on Sunday. The former vice president is trying to build support in North Carolina ahead of the key Super Tuesday primary in March.

After one of the most tumultuous weeks in American political history, Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren campaigned Saturday evening at Clinton College in Rock Hill.

President Trump is betting that his political brand will help Republicans keep hold of a U.S. House seat in North Carolina during a special election Tuesday.

"To stop the far left, you must vote in tomorrow's special election," Trump said at a campaign rally in Fayetteville, N.C., on Monday night. The rally was held for the Republican candidate running in the 9th Congressional District, state Sen. Dan Bishop.

Bishop promised the crowd, mostly decked out in Make America Great Again hats, that he would "defend your values in Washington, D.C."

Kamala Harris shook a lot of hands and took a lot of selfies when she was in Durham over the weekend. But while some people paid thousands of dollars to take a professional photo with the U.S. Senator and hopeful President, it was clear that her real friend is the new pastor of St. Joseph AME Church – the Rev. Jonathan Augustine.

The headlines about presidential candidate Joe Biden's new health care plan called it "a nod to the past" and "Affordable Care Act 2.0." That mostly refers to the fact that the former vice president has specifically repudiated many of his Democratic rivals' calls for a "Medicare for All" system, and instead sought to build his plan on the ACA's framework.
