We all know the feeling. You're in a rush on your way to work or to drop the kids off, and you end up hitting back-to-back-to-back red lights. Your blood pressure kicks up, your body tenses, and your brain screams LET'S GO! Turn green already!

More than 200 residents attended a North Carolina Department of Transportation open house Wednesday night in Matthews to learn more about plans for toll lanes on Interstate 485 in south Charlotte. Another 250 people have filled out an online survey or left comments online.

So far, comments on the toll lanes are mixed.

The Charlotte Department of Transportation is out with it's annual traffic safety report this week. Among the findings -- the number of car crashes tends to peak on Fridays, especially during the evening drive home around 5 p.m.

Charlotte's roads are jammed, but the McCrory administration says the state's new road funding formula will help.

Low gas prices and an improving economy have contributed to the projected busiest holiday travel in six years.

Snow and ice are ensnarling traffic, cancelling flights and causing some power outages in the Charlotte area.

John Tomko is a meteorologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in South Carolina.

“Before this all wraps up tomorrow at lunchtime, storm total snow around seven inches in the Charlotte area," he said, "a little higher to the north and west.”
