How much stuff do you accumulate over nine years?

Everyday life has a way of throwing lots of papers, knick-knacks and clothing at us over time. It adds up.

Now imagine you’re an NFL head coach who gets lots of free T-shirts, jackets and shoes, all with the team logo on them. After nine years, it really adds up.

Which is why Ron Rivera decided to have a yard sale Saturday.

After nearly nine seasons, 76 wins and a Super Bowl appearance, the Ron Rivera era is over for the Carolina Panthers. Owner David Tepper fired Rivera, the head coach, on Tuesday, saying he "just thought it was time given the way things have gone the last two seasons."

Panthers coach Ron Rivera says Sunday's disappointing performance by quarterback Kyle Allen does not mean that backup Will Grier is going to get more consideration for playing time. Rivera says the team remains committed to developing Allen.

Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera on Sunday gave the type of lockerroom talk to his team you’d expect after a big win.

Rivera praised the playoff-bound Panthers for playing hard throughout game.

He noted they are in the playoffs, but by no means satisfied with that accomplishment.

He gathered players around him. And then, he had players shout the name of embattled owner Jerry Richardson.

Julius Peppers was missing from the field as the national anthem played during Sunday's game against New Orleans. The Carolina Panthers' defensive end was in the locker room, sitting out the anthem in protest of recent comments made by President Trump.

This Sunday when the Carolina Panthers play the Denver Broncos, Panthers' coach Ron Rivera will become the second Latino head coach in Super Bowl history. It's one reason many in Charlotte's Latino community are all about American football right now.

The NFL today suspended Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for one game. Beckham’s behavior in Sunday’s game against the Panthers has been under much scrutiny, particularly for launching at the head of Panthers defensive back Josh Norman.

In a press conference Monday, Panthers coach Ron Rivera wouldn’t enter the debate over appropriate punishment. He simply said it’s up to the NFL.

Meanwhile, Rivera indicated his philosophy in the debate over whether to rest key players to avoid injury heading into the playoffs.

This Saturday, the Carolina Panthers will do, what just weeks ago, seemed extremely unlikely. They will host an NFL playoff game. It's what sports fans could consider Carolina’s Christmas season miracle.

At their post-season press conference on Monday, Panthers Coach "Riverboat" Ron Rivera gambled by telling the world just how the team will beat the Arizona Cardinals.

"We’ve got to go out and play well. We’ve got to play well enough to win."

(What did you expect? He’s an NFL coach at a press conference.)

The first guilty pleas are due this week in a massive North Carolina-based Ponzi scheme. Dawn Wright Olivares was the high-profile face of ZeekRewards, an online company that promised big returns on a small investment.  As the company's former chief operating officer, she promoted the investment at public events and in interviews, calling it a great way to make money.

Coaches can have a big impact on kids on and off the field.  With that in mind, a group working to prevent domestic violence gathered together a couple hundred coaches in Charlotte Thursday. They discussed how to grow players into respectful, young men.

The group A Call To Men knows how to get coaches to listen up.  Call in Carolina Panthers Coach Ron Rivera.

“When I started here, the very first thing I put up on my first PowerPoint: be a man,” Rivera told the coaches.

NEW ORLEANS - Brandon Beane, the Carolina Panthers’ acting general manager, is standing next to the tunnel that leads to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome field. He wears a general manager quality pin-striped suit and brown shoes.

Marty Hurney, whom the Panthers fired as general manager in October, never dressed like that.

”Marty wasn’t interested in fashion,” Beane says.

Beane, 36, is. He also, one would suppose, is interested in becoming Carolina’s full-time general manager. But he won’t say it. A courteous no comment is all I get.

Carolina Panthers Lose To Chiefs In Emotional Game

Dec 3, 2012

The Carolina Panthers lost to the Chiefs Sunday in what was an emotional scene in Kansas City. The game was played a day after one of the Chiefs' starting linebackers killed his girlfriend and then himself.

Chiefs' linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend early Saturday morning, and then drove to the team's practice facility and killed himself in front of his coach Romeo Crennel and general manager.

Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera says he’s searching for answers to solving the team’s string of disappointing losses. He just isn’t finding them.

“If we were losing games by 14 points, OK, we're not good enough. But when you lose close games, you are good enough. There's something missing,” Rivera said Monday during his weekly press conference at Bank of America stadium. “There's something we have to find and we've got to get past and through those things, and we've got to make plays.”
