A South Carolina Senate panel has approved a proposal to temporarily limit access to the state's school voucher program for homeschooled students.
According to The State newspaper, the measure would allow about 1,000 currently enrolled homeschool students to remain in the Education Scholarship Trust Fund program, but would block new homeschool applicants.
Senate Education Committee Chairman Greg Hembree said the move is intended to pause enrollment while lawmakers debate whether homeschooled students should continue to participate.
