Flooding, Mudslides In Caldwell, Avery Counties

The National Weather Service reports there is serious flooding in northwest Caldwell and eastern Avery counties after 4-6 inches of rain fell Friday evening, and up to three more inches could fall through early Saturday morning. A flash flood warning is in effect until 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

The Caldwell County sheriff’s office says rain has forced the closure of roads in the Colletsville area.

There are also reports of mudslides. Highway 105 near the Avery-Watauga County line is closed because of a mudslide, according to Watauga County 911. The National Weather Service warns that mudslides may develop in areas of steep terrain.
