Grand Jury Upgrades Charge To Murder For Teenager Involved In Shooting

Mecklenburg County Jail

A teenager police say was involved in a shooting in Charlotte has had his charge upgraded to murder.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says a grand jury returned an indictment for the charge of murder for Marvin Chevez-Quiffaro, 18, for his involvement in the shooting death of 18-year-old Terale Claridy-Vaught. Chevez-Quiffaro had previously been charged with accessory after the fact to murder. He was arrested Wednesday morning and transferred to Mecklenburg County Jail.

Jalen Boulware, who was arrested Monday, June 4 has also been charged with Claridy-Vaught's murder.

CMPD says it found Claridy-Vaught with gunshot wounds in a neighborhood off Erwin Road while investigating a shooting at a nearby home Sunday, June 3. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The department says Boulware and Chevez-Quifarro both voluntarily came to CMPD headquarters to be interviewed Monday, June 4 before being turned over to the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Boulware has previously been arrested for possession of marijuana and larceny.
