Creative Loafing Charlotte put out its last print issue Wednesday. The president of the alternative weekly’s parent company, Charles Womack, said in a statement this afternoon that he’s selling the company to his 28-year-old son who is changing the business to a digital-first multimedia company.

Press release from Creative Loafing.

Womack, the head of Greensboro-based Womack Newspapers Inc.,  said his son “Alex has a lot of experience in the digital world and is very passionate about innovation and technology."

"I’m excited to see all the things his company will be creating in the coming months,” Womack added.

Creative Loafing Editor-in-Chief  Ryan Pitkin posted on Twitter that Womack had waited until the paper had gone to print before shutting it down.

"Everyone out of work," Pitkin wrote. "No severance. No nothing.”
