Atrium, Fifth-Third Donations Bring Private Housing Fund Close To $50 Million

Fifth-Third Bank and Atrium Health are each pledging $10 million for affordable housing in Charlotte.

That announcement was made Tuesday morning at the Foundation for the Carolinas in uptown with the mayor and other city and business leaders present.

All of Atrium Health’s contribution will go toward the Charlotte Housing Opportunity Investment Fund started by the Foundation. Three million of Fifth-Third’s donation will go to the fund, with the rest going toward planned investments and loan initiatives.

The multi-million dollar contributions now bring the private sector’s affordable housing fund to $44 million, or about 88 percent of its $50 million dollar goal. Also at this morning’s announcement, the owners of Brooks Sandwich House said they’re donating three acres to be used for roughly two dozen townhomes that will be built by Habitat for Humanity.
