On this edition of Charlotte Talks, Mayor Vi Lyles returns for the second of her monthly chats with Mike Collins to discuss several important issues facing the city. She believes keeping the Panthers is a top priority when it comes to economic development. She’ll tell us why and share her thoughts on not being on Amazon’s list. We’ll also talk about CMPD staffing concerns just days after officers asked for a raise and her proposal to host the 2020 Republican National Convention. Mayor Lyles met with reporters in her office earlier this week to talk about her first 3 months in office- at the meeting, she said that keeping the Panthers in Charlotte is a top priority when it comes to economic development for the city.
She also gave her thoughts about not being on the shortlist for the new Amazon headquarters. We’ll discuss the details.
Mayor Lyles expressed concerns about CMPD staffing, just days after dozens of officers appeared at City Council to request raises, citing that many officers are considering leaving the departments to work for cities where the pay is better.
The mayor says the city is considering a bid to host the Republican National convention in 2020, after the success of Charlotte’s 2012 hosting of the Democratic National Convention. We’ll talk about our chances.
