On Charlotte Talks, we talk with our Poet Laureate about using poetry and music to bridge the growing divide in our nation and to change public opinion. Plus we hear from those behind CPCC's Sensoria Festival.
The nation is more divided than at any time in recent memory. Could the solution be found in literature? America’s Poet Laureate thinks so. Tracy K. Smith joined us to talk about how literature can be used to bridge gaps between people and as a vehicle for social change.
Then we talk about a specific piece of music based on a poem and its impact on changing minds. Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem,” was inspired by a famous British poetwho died in World War I and one of his anti-war poems. It will be performed at CPCC’s Sensoria Festivaland we find out why many believe this work is as relevant as ever.
