Bank of America Stadium has been chosen to host one of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup matches featuring Mexico's national team, according to an announcement made by the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority.

Mexico's men's team will play as part of a doubleheader at the Charlotte stadium on June 23. CRVA Chief Executive Officer Tom Murray said Charlotte is excited to host Mexico, both for the global exposure and expected benefit to the local economy.

“We anticipate the fan-favorite team will draw visitors from near and far, resulting in additional visitor spending that is important to our overall $7 billion visitor economy,” Murray said in the statement.

The Gold Cup tournament for the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football, known as CONCACAF, takes place every two years. The CONCACAF Gold Cup is also a World Cup qualifier and draws millions of fans and viewers together from across the Americas. The CRVA called the tournament “a celebration of soccer, sportsmanship and culture.”

The confederation has expanded next summer’s tournament to include 16 countries, making it the largest Gold Cup in CONCACAF history.

Six countries have already qualified for the tournament, including Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States. The complete groups and schedule will be announced early next year after all of the teams qualify.
