Roughly 3,700 BMX racers from 48 countries have been in Rock Hill this week. They’ve been competing in the Union Cyclist International BMX World Championships. Rock Hill City Manager David Vehaun says he expects the event to generate $12 to 13 million for the city.

“These are the largest world championships that they’ve ever had and the stands have been just jammed every single day,” he said.

Vehaun says the event at Novant Health BMX Supercross Track has attracted more than 20,000 fans. The competition ends Saturday. The last time the United States hosted the championships was 16 years ago in Kentucky.
