A final report is due out soon from an independent group hired to review CMPD policies and community relations after last year’s shooting of Keith Lamont Scott. But it won't include any scrutiny of the shooting itself.
The Police Foundation conducted the review this spring and summer under a $380,000 contract with the City of Charlotte. The group helps cities improve policing after major police incidents, such as those in North Charleston, Ferguson, and San Bernardino.
A city spokeswoman says a final report with recommendations will be made public soon, though she wouldn't say exactly when or how.
Over the past six months, the foundation has been talking to a cross-section of Charlotteans in public meetings and smaller "listening sessions." The city did not hire the group to look at the Scott shooting, but the review did include CMPD's response to the protests that followed.
The final report had been expected in August. A city spokeswoman said the foundation needed more time to compile the report.
CMPD is also looking at recommendations of the Citizens Review Board after its inquiry into the Scott shooting.
