Man Sentenced To Life in Prison For 2009 Murder, Armed Robbery

A federal judge sentenced a Charlotte man to life in prison for murder during an armed robbery in 2009, U.S. Attorney Andrew Murray announced Tuesday.

According to the statement, Damarcus Donte Ivey, 36, killed a man at a club in west Charlotte on Sept. 10, 2009 while robbing patrons and staff at gunpoint. He robbed the club with the help of a man named Kevin Bishop. Ivey and Bishop fled the scene in a truck, but were apprehended by authorities when their car crashed during a police chase.

Bishop was convicted in 2014 and sentenced to 16-20 years in prison. A federal jury convicted Ivey of Hobbs Act robbery and committing murder with a firearm in 2017. He is currently in federal custody. All federal sentences are served without the possibility of parole.
