10, Including Davidson Professor, Face Child Exploitation Charges

TONY WEBSTER

A Davidson College professor is among 10 men facing charges of child exploitation in York County, South Carolina.

The York County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday the arrests were made following a multiple-day investigation earlier this month in which law enforcement officers posed as children online. One of those arrested was Michael Bovino of Mooresville, a visiting professor at Davidson College.

In a statement, Davidson said Bovino was placed on leave and barred from campus immediately following the arrest.

Another man arrested is Marine corporal who is awaiting extradition from Quantico, Virginia.

Nearly all of the other men arrested live in the Charlotte region. The sheriff’s office said the charges they face include criminal solicitation of a minor, attempted sexual exploitation of a minor and attempted promoting prostitution of a minor.
