Candidate ME 8 - Ad It Up

Your browser doesn’t support HTML5 audio

It's fall. Halloween is just around the corner and the November election is not far behind. It therefore seems fitting for Candidate ME to delve into one of the true dark arts of campaigns, political advertising.

In the first part of a two-episode look at the ads we all say we love to hate, host Tom Bullock digs into the tricks of the trade – the science, philosophy and creation of political ads. We're all about to get bombarded with them, so think of this episode as a bit of garlic to keep you safe from the political ad onslaught.

If you want to watch the short film on propaganda in U.S. political campaigns we talk about in the podcast, you can find it here.

And rest assured, Candidate ME will get back into local races and bring back our political panel next week.

Tom Bullock decided to trade the khaki clad masses and traffic of Washington DC for Charlotte in 2014. Before joining WFAE, Tom spent 15 years working for NPR. Over that time he served as everything from an intern to senior producer of NPR’s Election Unit. Tom also spent five years as the senior producer of NPR’s Foreign Desk where he produced and reported from Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Haiti, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon among others. Tom is looking forward to finally convincing his young daughter, Charlotte, that her new hometown was not, in fact, named after her.
