Panthers Cut Team's All-Time Rusher Jonathan Stewart

David T. Foster III

The Carolina Panthers have jettisoned long-time running back Jonathan Stewart.

Stewart, who has played all 10 of professional seasons for the Panthers, is the franchise’s all-time leading rusher with 7,318 yards and 1,699 attempts. His 58 career touchdowns are second in the team’s history.

In a statement, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said he appreciated Stewart and his style of play.

“Jonathan played the game the way you want,” Rivera said. “He brought an element of toughness as a runner that set the tempo for our team.”

The Panthers finished 11-5 last season and have recently cut veterans Kurt Coleman, a safety, and Charles Johnson, a defensive end.
