Good news came in the form of grant money to the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art Wednesday. The museum has received the largest grant from a corporate donor in its five-year history.

The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art was awarded a $350,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation. There are a few ways the museum plans to put the money to good use.

The money will support free admission for military members and special family events. $50,000 of the grant will be used as matching funds for people who donate $1,000 or more to the museum through June.

The grant will be used over three years on a declining basis. Bechtler President and CEO John Boyer says it’s a smart way to set up the grant.

“The fact that it’s over three years gives us a kind of predictability and dependability that really allows us to make certain kinds of programmatic and staffing commitments that you can’t do if you’re only getting grants on a year by year basis," said Boyer.

Plus he says, the timing of the grant worked out nicely—The Bechtler Museum celebrated its fifth birthday just last week.
