Police Arrest 2 Suspects After Shooting In NW Charlotte, High-Speed Chase

Police arrested two people following a high-speed chase that started in northwest Charlotte and ended in Gaston County Wednesday afternoon.  The two people taken into custody are the suspects in a shooting of a man and a pregnant woman that occurred earlier that day on Effingham Road, police said in a statement.

The shooting suspects have been identified as Reco Lamont Perry, 22, and Tahjah Adarrious Quarles, also 22.

Police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service around noon. Authorities were able to get a description of the suspects and their vehicle from witnesses on scene.

Shortly after, video taken from a WSOC news helicopter showed a silver sedan, which matched the description from witnesses, driving erratically. The video shows the car traveling at high speeds, weaving through traffic and blowing through intersections.  After a nearly 45-minute chase, the car’s driver and a passenger abandoned the car along Interstate 85 south near exit 23 in Gaston County.  Police took the pair into custody after a foot chase.

The two shooting victims were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

According to CMPD, both Perry and Quarles have been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony conspiracy, battery of an unborn child and resisting arrest.
