Mecklenburg County property owners will soon receive notices of their new property values. The Assessor’s Office plans to mail revaluation notices to nearly 400,000 property owners beginning Wednesday. The new values will be accessible online beginning Thursday.
The Assessor’s Office has said residential property values are going up by an average of about 40 percent. The average commercial property value is jumping by about 78 percent. The new values reflect Mecklenburg’s first countywide property revaluation since 2011.
Property owners can request an informal review of the newly-assessed values within 30 days of receiving their notice. A county board will hear formal appeals in the spring.
The next property tax bills won’t be due until September first. The actual amount of a property owner’s new tax bill will depend on tax rates set by Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, and other municipalities by July.
