Charlotte saw one of the largest population increases in the country from 2017 to 2018, according to new Census figures out Thursday. The U.S. Census Bureau says Charlotte’s population increased by 13,151 from July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2018. That brought the population of Charlotte to 872,498.
It was the fifth largest increase in the nation behind Seattle, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Phoenix, which saw the biggest jump with 25,288.
The Census also says Raleigh-suburb Apex was the third fastest growing among cities with populations of at least 50,000 during the period. It saw a population increase of almost 6.8 percent, according to the figures.
The Census says North Carolina was among the four states that gained more than 50,000 housing units during the period with an increase of 63,000 units.
