Police say a man was shot and killed in north Charlotte Wednesday night after a heated confrontation following a wreck.

Officers were called to a two-vehicle wreck the intersection of West Sugar Creek Road and North Tryon Street about 8:45 p.m. When they got there, police found two vehicles in a parking lot and the body of a man who had been shot.

The man was later identified as 37-year-old Richard Clements.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says an initial investigation showed the two people involved got into a wreck and then an argument. Clements got out of his vehicle and was shot by the second person, who stayed and "rendered aid to the victim," according to CMPD.

Police say they're still investigating. As of early Thursday, no charges had been announced.
