Southwest Charlotte Shooting Claims Man’s Life

TONY WEBSTER

Police say a 20-year-old man was shot and killed Friday evening in southwest Charlotte.

Someone called 911 just after 8 p.m. to report an assault in the 700 block of Edgegreen Drive, just south of West Tyvola Road. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they found a man who’d been shot but was alive.

A few minutes later, there was a call about shots being fired about two miles away in the 200 block of Stone Post Road, near Nations Ford Road. There, they found Brad Gregory Kelly shot to death.

The gunshot victim found near Edgegreen Drive was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries police described as not life-threatening.

Police say they’re trying to figure out if there was a connection between the two men. As of Monday, the department hadn’t released any new information about what may have led to the shooting.

According to WFAE’s records, Kelly’s death is the fifth homicide in Charlotte this year. In 2019, there were 107 homicides, according to CMPD.
