Police say two people were shot and killed early Sunday at an east Charlotte apartment complex.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Crime investigators in North Carolina have charged a wanted man with murdering his girlfriend after he reported to Charlotte-Mecklenberg police headquarters.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police said Wednesday it has identified one suspect after an early morning shooting in uptown left one person dead and three people injured.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a fatal shooting Wednesday morning in north Charlotte. Police say it happened just before 5:45 a.m., when someone fired shots into a home on Ohaus Court, off Sunset Road. 

Both Charlotte and Mecklenburg County leaders are asking residents to help them stem the area's rising violent crime rate. That call was issued at a joint press conference today featuring CMPD Police Chief Kerr Putney, CMS superintendent Clayton Wilcox, and Charlotte Community Relations Executive Director Willie Ratchford.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a fatal stabbing last night in northeast Charlotte. According to CMPD, a woman was found on the side of the road at Denbur Drive and Bending Branch Road, off Albemarle Road at around 9:30 p.m.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a fatal shooting at an apartment complex near the UNC Charlotte.

Detectives were investigating the shooting, which occurred in the 9900 block of University Village Boulevard at the University Village apartments, not far from where a vigil for victims of the deadly campus attack was ending.

A man died after being shot outside a restaurant in south Charlotte Monday night.  Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said officers found Domingo Venancio-Tapia, 41, with a gunshot wound outside Restaurante Lempira on South Boulevard around 11 p.m. while responding to a call.

Three separate shootings in Charlotte Sunday took the lives of three people, according to reports by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. The first call came in around 1 p.m. CMPD responded to reports of a shooting in west Charlotte near Interstate 77 and LaSalle Street.

CMPD is investigating a homicide Monday morning in east Charlotte that left one man dead. Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call around 8:20 a.m. off The Plaza.

Police in Charlotte are investigating two more homicides in Charlotte that occurred over the weekend.

Charlotte Mecklenburg police say they're treating the suspicious death of a 60-year-old man just south of uptown Charlotte Friday as a homicide.

Homicides in Charlotte are up sharply this year, according to quarterly statistics released Wednesday by Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. CMPD says it investigated 33 homicides in the first three months of 2019, up from just 10 in the same period last year and 23 in 2017.

Police have arrested Andrew Houston, 21, in connection with an early Sunday morning homicide in south Charlotte.

According to CMPD, officers were called a little after 3:30 a.m. Sunday to investigate a reported domestic disturbance in the 3900 block of Bon-Rea Drive, off Highway 51. When officers got there, they discovered an adult male, who was pronounced dead by Medic.

Police have charged a 24-year-old man with murder in the death of a carjacking suspect who was shot in uptown Charlotte early Saturday. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that took place late Saturday night northwest of uptown.

Only two months into 2019, the number of homicides to date is outpacing that of the last two years. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police data, there have been 25 homicides in Charlotte so far this year. There were six at this point last year, and 15 at this point in 2017.
