Incoming U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina said that after he's sworn into Congress early next month, he will contest President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

Cawthorn was elected last month to the state’s 11th Congressional District in the mountains.

He spoke recently at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit in Florida. He talked about what he called “liberal governors in liberal states.”

"You can see that they have broken the law and gone against our constitution with this election," he said. "And so, because of that, on Jan. 6, as the people of western North Carolina send me to Washington, I will be contesting the election."

Seven of North Carolina’s GOP congressmen had supported a failed Texas lawsuit that sought to overturn the election. The U.S. Supreme Court dismissed the baseless lawsuit a little more than two weeks ago.

The Electoral College then certified Biden’s victory, with 306 electoral votes to President Trump’s 232. That led to an increasing number of Republicans to congratulate Biden, such as Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell.

McConnell is reportedly asking his members not to join any effort to contest the election next month.
