Mecklenburg County Employees Will Get Active Shooter Training

Mecklenburg County will begin training all 5,300 of its employees to deal with active shooter situations.  County Manager Dena Dioro says the county already employs 70 security officers, some of them armed, to staff its main facilities.

"We’ve been really looking at security from a very broad perspective this year, but the incident that happened last week really brought to the forefront that we need to do something intentional for our employees," she said Thursday.

She says a couple of departments like the county assessor’s office and human resources have undergone such training in the past, but never all county employees. The training will take place over the next three to six months. Diorio says it’s not clear yet who will conduct the training or how much it will cost.
