The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is standing by its internal investigation that found last year's shooting of Keith Lamont Scott was justified. That comes a day after the city's Citizen Review Board found the department may have been wrong.

CMPD Maj. Estella Patterson, who leads the department's internal affairs division, spoke at a press conference Wednesday.

"We have full confidence - complete confidence in the investigation and what was determined," she said, later suggesting that the Citizen's Review Board may see things differently after a second hearing scheduled in August.

"We have had cases before where initially, just like this, they have not agreed with the chief," Patterson said, "But once you have the full hearing, and they have all the information presented before them, they have an opportunity to hear from witnesses, then they determine at that point that the chief did not err."

The second hearing is scheduled for Aug. 8 at 9 a.m. at government center. By law, the hearing will be closed to the public because it concerns personnel matters. Board members will hear testimony from Scott's family, CMPD officials, and Officer Brentley Vinson, who fatally shot Scott last September.
