CMPD Investigating 2 Homicides Over Span Of 12 Hours

CMPD is investigating two homicides in Charlotte in the past 12 hours. They are the 30th and 31st homicides of the year.

On Tuesday evening at 9:32 p.m., police received a call for service on the 6400 block of Heatherbrook Avenue in northeast Charlotte. They found Qa’dir Avery Alverest, 17, with a gunshot wound outside of a home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday morning at 7:25 a.m., officers responded for an assist on a MEDIC call near the intersection of Willilyn Lane and Huntwood Drive in west Charlotte. They found 41-year-old Joshua Leland Cox with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
