Mecklenburg County has a new budget that includes a tax increase and a slight boost in pay for teachers.  Commissioners approved the spending plan last night.

It sets aside an extra $31 million for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, including $7 million for increasing the county's local supplement for teachers. The school system had requested an overall increase of $40 million.

The budget also includes close to $6 million to boost information technology security following last year's cyberattack on the county's computer system.

The county's budget will raise the property tax rate by three-quarters of a cent. Along with the city's one-cent tax increase, that amounts to an extra $44 on a home valued at $250,000.
