CMPD: Elementary Teacher Inappropriately Touched 2 Students

Charlotte Mecklenburg police have charged a Charlotte school teacher with sexually assaulting two children.

CMPD says Taji Brown, a 29-year-old fifth grade teacher at Billingsville Elementary School on Randolph Road, ran a mentoring and summer program for boys out of his home in north Charlotte.

In July, a parent of a 10-year-old boy went to police with a complaint. After an investigation, including a search of Brown’s home, police arrested him. They say he touched two boys inappropriately during an overnight stay at his house.

He faces two counts of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of indecent liberties with a student. He was being held at Mecklenburg County Jail with bail set at $40,000. He’s due in court Wednesday.

None of the alleged inappropriate activity happened at the school.

CMPD’s Crimes Against Children Unit is trying to find out if there are other victims.
