Appeals Court Says Teenage Killer Should Get Chance At Parole

North Carolina's Court of Appeals says a prisoner convicted of killing a pair of brothers in Charlotte must have the chance to be released one day because he committed the crimes when he was 17.

Montrez Benjamin Williams, who was convicted in June 2011 of killing Josh Davis and Terry Long outside of Arbor Glen Apartments in west Charlotte, will still have two consecutive terms of life sentences, but the appeals court said yesterday Williams must also be given the possibility for parole.

He was initially sentenced to life without parole. A lower court judge re-issued the same sentence to Williams in 2015 but the appeals court ruled the judged “erred” with the sentence when he determined there was “no certain prognosis” of Williams’ possibility of rehabilitation.
