It was an emotional night for Democrats in Charlotte - particularly those who were involved in the Civil Rights movement. County Commissioner and civil rights activist Vilma Leake was overcome with emotion at news that Barack Obama had won. "I can recall the '60s when we marched. When we strove to vote. And tonight God has answered our prayers. Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, I am free at last," Leake exclaimed. She joined hundreds of exuberant Democrats in celebrating the election results at a party in Charlotte last night. 36-year-old Lisa Johnson was nearly speechless as she wiped tears from her eyes saying, "I can't even describe what I'm feeling. It's awesome. To see something like this. To see this change. To see people come together. This is the most incredible thing I've ever experienced in my life."
